Global Women Asia: New Leaders of Our Shared Future

After launching a year ago, Global Women Asia returned to London on February 12th to convene a meeting at the UK House of Lords, co-hosted by Baroness Mary Goudie and The Lord Leong CBE. Baroness Goudie opened the session by announcing GWA's 2024 Women in STEM Fellowship, encouraging everyone to nominate potential fellows. (Nomination: https://lnkd.in/eQs7CP4h)

GWA's 2023 fellow, Larissa Pramudita Sidarto, shared her decade-long journey building businesses in sustainability, stressing the need to adapt sustainability to local contexts. For example, in Southeast Asia, where food plays a significant part in life, there is greater scrutiny of taste and price for plant-based products. Encouraging sustainable food consumption starts with delivering delicious food first. Sidarto also shared how she felt inspired and empowered at GWA's 2023 Women in Sustainability Fellowship retreat in San Francisco. She is grateful for the opportunities from the program and looks forward to supporting future fellows.

Global Women Asia's Founder and Chairwoman, Wenchi Yu, expanded on the organization's mission: "By building a global community of diverse leaders who represent the communities they serve, we will have better perspectives on global issues and more informed solutions to global challenges." Speaking on geopolitics between the US, China, and Taiwan, Yu challenged everyone to go beyond the headlines. "Instead of asking whether there will be a war, look closely at who is speaking and commenting on the situation and what perspectives are represented and underrepresented."

Baroness Angela Smith and Lord Ray Collins also participated and contributed to the discussion, which covered a range of issues from democracy in Taiwan to girls and STEM education and the need for better cultural understanding and inclusion of perspectives.
